Build New
Form a team and build a web or mobile app from scratch in order to pitch to our investor / executive panel and win dozens of sponsor prizes
We will award special prizes for the teams that build the best add-on to their existing products using sponsor technologies
Members can submit challenges that help humanity using data and API's, and you can solve those challenges for special hackathon awards!

A special award will be given to the DataWeek + API World hackathon app that best solves a global problem in an innovative way. Here are some example global challenges to inspire you - but you are not limited to these!

Climate Change: Build an app that helps people visualize or understand the impact of climate change on a global scale - or understand / coordinate around the possible solutions

Global Education: How can we provide low-cost or free education to new markets (local or global)?

Finance 2.0: How can new forms of microfinance, peer-to-peer lending, or crowd funding enable new types of global investments / projects to get off the ground?

Tourism for Good: How can travel / tourism activities help encourage global impact initiatives such as environmental protection, cultural exchange, or health / fitness?

Doing Business Globally: Help solve a problem facing the global business / professional world such as outsourcing, finding global vendors or business partners, or living abroad


1- You can prepare wireframes, outlines, or notes but you cannot start any of your design or development until Saturday September 13th at 10:00 AM

2- Teams can consist of only 1 person but no more than 5 people

3- Your team and your app will be judged based on 4 criteria: 1) Are you solving a real problem in an interesting way? 2) How well did you present? 3) How much progress did you make on your application?

4- If you build using a sponsor’s technology then you are also eligible for the sponsor prize!
