Grand Prize Winner:

The top 5 hackathon teams that will go on to pitch Thursday October 3rd at DataWeek include:

API Boiler

Easy-to-use boilerplate for APIs, targeting everyone from novice to master. For the novice, it's a simple, easy-to-use Rest API creation service. For master backend engineers, it's a great starting point to build a truly scalable, robust, and diverse API.

Benchmarks.io provides business intelligence on startups and privately held companies by aggregating a large number of business data sources.

Emails, SMS, Twitter feeds, Facebook, Pinterest, and many more create their own massive amount of data. Going from site to site, looking for the wanted information is time consuming. It can also be dangerous. In the car, distracted driving kills and injures thousands every year. We have created an broad based solution which allows a user to communicate with these services and more via a bluetooth headset or car speakers. Tweets from a specific user, Facebook activity, important emails, SMS messages, etc can be sent. With voice recognition, tweets tweeted, Facebook postings made, emails mailed, and text messages sent.

PhoneDirect cuts through phone trees so you don't have to.

Why should good seats go to waste? SeatSneak makes it easy to find seats that are still for sale online after the game starts, so you can get out of the nosebleeds and take them for yourself.

Chartio API Nerf Surprise

Chartio free account for six months + A special Nerf surprise!

UPDATE: There is no need to use forjar, the prize will go to the team that creates the best/most unique dashboard using the chartio platform.

At Chartio we created a data generator called Forjar. Forjar allows us to mock up schemas and describe how the data should behave over time. You can then run it to generate large amounts of fake data, based on the schema specifications. So far, as examples, we've cloned AirBnB, Zendesk, and Pinterest's schemas. We invite hackers to work on Forjar to help clone schemas, make it more polished and prepare it to be properly open sourced. Dave Fowler, founder of Chartio, will discuss this more in depth at the hackathon.

Disqus API Challenge

The Disqus API is a huge, valuable resource that has been largely untapped - until now. With over 1 million comments posted daily across thousands of active communities, you're bound to find something interesting. The average Disqus user is commenting about their passions spanning multiple sites. Use this data to build interesting projects that go beyond superficial social data. You'll learn about how the discussion data is bucketed and connected between communities, discussions and users, and how to navigate this network via the public API. Take advantage of contextual conversations to build smarter applications faster.
